Happy Presidents’ Day!
As you can see from the 2″ of fresh snow, winter has returned. It’s really not all that bad. It seems like snow in late February and later just doesn’t carry the depressing feeling that early winter snow sometimes brings. We’ve had a taste of nicer weather and know that winter’s end is not all that far away. Pictured is a rare moment with no birds at the feeders. The delicious smell of chili bubbling on the stove fills the air with thoughts of meaty goodness. Some good jazz is playing. It’s just a nice afternoon.
We’ve been participating in the Great Backyard Birdcount the past few dys. This is an international undertaking. Participants record all the birds they spot. We’ve kept a list for the entire holiday weekend. It includes:
Canada Goose
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Blue Jay
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
European Starling
Harris’s Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Northern Cardinal
House Sparrow
It’s really pretty amazing the variety of birds we have coming to the feeders. There are even a few more that I’m sure are around, but just haven’t showed up the last few days. And spring will bring an even greater variety. Love it!
I also wanted to lost a picture of the beautiful flowers my sweetie got me for Valentine’s Day. They are gorgeous, and really brighten up the room!
Great captures nseeer! These guys are now bouncing around the yard but tricky, well at least for me to try and capture a snap. They are rather comical birds, and oh, so cute
