RoostervilleUSA Morning Report
Saturday, July 18, 2026
Welcome to your neighborhood morning update. I’m BG Roberts, and here’s what’s happening around Liberty, Kearney, Smithville, and the Northland.

🌤️ Today Around Roosterville
It’s another midsummer Saturday across the Northland. Expect plenty of people heading to Smithville Lake, local farmers markets, parks, and community events. If you’re planning outdoor activities, remember to stay hydrated and keep an eye on the afternoon heat. Summer safety reminders continue to be a focus for local officials.
—
🏛 Clay County Headlines
Clay County prosecutors announced new criminal charges this week in online child exploitation cases, saying they hope aggressive enforcement creates a “chilling effect” against predators. It’s one of the county’s most significant public safety stories of the week.
Development also continues throughout the rapidly growing Northland, with additional housing projects and transportation improvements remaining active topics across Clay County communities.
—
🌽 Liberty
Liberty remains one of Missouri’s fastest-growing communities. While today brings no major city announcements, economic development and infrastructure projects continue to reshape the city. Residents are also being encouraged to enjoy Liberty’s parks, trails, and historic downtown during the summer season.
—
🚜 Kearney
The Market at the Park summer season continues, bringing together local growers, craftspeople, and food vendors. It’s become one of the best Saturday destinations in northern Clay County for shopping local and visiting neighbors.
—
🚤 Smithville
City officials continue reminding residents about summer heat safety and proper care for pets during the hottest weeks of the year. Smithville also continues promoting youth recreation programs and community events throughout July.
With warm weather expected, Smithville Lake will once again be one of the busiest destinations in the Kansas City region.

🌾 Roosterville History Minute
Did you know?
Long before Interstate 35 and Highway 169 carried thousands of cars every day, nearly all northbound travelers leaving Kansas City crossed these same hills on wagon roads leading toward Liberty, Kearney, Plattsburg, and St. Joseph. Many of today’s highways still follow routes first worn into the prairie nearly two centuries ago.
